Description

From January 12 to March 31, Michelangelo’s Last Judgment in the Sistine Chapel is undergoing conservation. A scaffolding will cover the entire wall, but the Sistine Chapel remains open and accessible, although the artwork will not be visible during this period.

Your tour begins near the Vatican Museums entrance with a professional guide. You will explore the Pinecone and Octagonal Courtyards, learning about key statues like the Laocoon, Apollo Belvedere, and the Belvedere Torso.

Next, visit the Gallery of Maps and the Gallery of Tapestries before entering the Sistine Chapel. Early access allows you more time to appreciate Michelangelo’s ceiling frescoes. Although 'The Last Judgment' is under restoration, the chapel’s atmosphere remains unique before crowds arrive.

The tour continues to the Raphael Rooms, where you can see important papal apartment artworks in a quieter setting. Your guide will explain the stories and symbolism behind these masterpieces.

Finish with access to St. Peter’s Basilica via a skip-the-line entrance. Inside, view notable artworks such as Michelangelo’s Pietà and Bernini’s Baldacchino. Your guide will also discuss the Papal Tombs and dome access before concluding the tour with a walk around Piazza San Pietro.
