Description
Depart Rome heading north through the Tiber Valley to reach Orvieto, an ancient Etruscan town. Here, admire the 14th-century Gothic cathedral, celebrated for its architectural significance. Continue through the Tuscan hills, dotted with olive groves and vineyards known for producing quality D.O.C. wines like Orvieto, Chianti, and Brunello di Montalcino.
Enjoy a traditional local lunch before traveling along the shores of Lake Trasimeno to arrive in Assisi, located at the foot of Mount Subasio. Assisi is notable as the birthplace of St. Francis. Explore key sites including the Church of St. Clare, St. Francis’ birthplace and childhood home, and the Town Hall Square with the People’s Palace and the Roman Temple of Minerva.
A highlight is the visit to St. Francis’ Basilica near the ancient city walls, famous for frescoes created between the 12th and 14th centuries. The tour also includes the church of Santa Maria Maggiore, also known as the Sanctuary of the Stripping, which houses the body of San Carlo Acutis, beatified in 2020.
The tour returns to Rome around 7:30 to 8:00 pm.
