Hotel Virgilio

About a week before our single night stay here I received an email asking about preference for a room with one queen or two twin beds, when we may anticipate arrival, and if there were any upgrades/additions we wanted in the room when we arrived, while probably automatic it was a nice touch to know they were already planning ahead, and I received a personalized response to my reply back which was great. When we arrived we waited a few min for staff to come down since it was later than anticipated after some delays, the man at the front desk was extremely friendly and then went up to our room. It’s simple but nice, bathroom was spacious, but immediately we could hear noise from the hallway. We figured there were only two other rooms in the hallway it’s probably just one person coming in and it’ll be fine, but then when we sat down to start getting settled and organize our bags we could hear nearby rooms as if we were standing in an open concept room behind one wall or just around a corner from people having a normal level conversation-you could clearly hear and understand everything that was being said and it didn’t even seem muffled. Luckily we had no problem falling or staying asleep, the noise decreased, but by 7 am we could start to hear conversations again. Aside from the walls being paper thin, the shower is spacious enough but is half a glass sliding door and half a curtain that is too long and doesn’t stay well so it ends up sitting in the water in the shower then getting so wet it’s hanging in towards the drain and was just in the way. Overall the facility is nice, but we wouldn’t stay here again because of the noise.
Just returned from a 4 night stay at Hotel Virgilio and cannot say enough great things about this hotel. The staff was very nice and helpful with everything...rooms were nice and spacious and clean. The location of the hotel is perfect for the Colosseum, Pantheon, Trevi Fountain, Spanish Steps and the train station is just a few minute walk away. Great restaurants located on the same street and the tabacci on the corner was great as well. The hotel arranged pick up from the airport and then to the port when we left for our cruise and the price for the transfers were very reasonable! There is also a laundry mat just up the street. Overall a great hotel in a perfect location and we will definitely book this hotel again when we return to Roma!!
We stayed in the annex building next door, which was fine with us. It did have a lift and might not be for everybody. But for us it was perfectly fine. The front desk was great with anything we needed help with.
A fabulous stay. Great location - in between the station and the center - and very professional service (chapeau, Mattia), and a spotless, quite spacious room. I've been to Rome a dozen times, and as a Marriott titanium it's always been 'upscale', well no more, this is absolutely where I'm staying next time I'm in town. Very quiet location, convenient to shopping, cafes, attractions, etc. Highly recommended.
