Hotel La Rovere
Rome
Avis
Hotel La Rovere is a wonderful hotel near the banks of the Tiber and about 200 metres from the Vatican. The staff were very friendly letting me into the room early. Breakfast was wonderful.
We had a very good stay at Hotel La Rovere. The location was excellent for visiting both the Vatican (easy 10 min walk) and Trastevere, while still being in a quiet area away from the crowds—exactly what we were looking for. The room was clean and quiet, the bed was comfortable, the shower had strong hot water (but was very small - like an RV) and the staff was consistently courteous and helpful. A few small drawbacks: limited storage (no shelves or drawers), no tissues, basic toiletries (combined shampoo/body wash and hand soap), and an AC system with a fixed temperature range that cannot be overridden. It could also be a bit louder during peak season with guests coming and going, but street noise is very minimal. One tip: taxis often drop guests at the main street near the hotel sign, requiring a walk through a dark, dirty narrow alley and steps. There is a better vehicle-accessible alley to the left—ask your driver to use it for direct drop-off at the entrance or use it to walk up to the entrance – watch out for cars! Overall, for a 3-star hotel, it feels closer to 4 stars thanks to its location, cleanliness, and comfort.
We swapped from Mercure to La Rovere after securing a 8:30 ticket to St Peter. Despite this being almost double in price (as we had Mercure at a very low rate), no regret. 10 minutes walk to Vatican, walking distance to Janiculum Hill and Fontana Dell' Acqua Paola. Not to mention the breakfast too with a great variety. Thank you for accommodating us.
Arrived back home now so time to review. Well situated for the Vatican and great staff. There is a small alley with stairs to access or you can walk from the next street which means you avoid these. Buffet breakfast with plenty food and choice, lovely fresh fruit. All in all we had a great stay though if I come back it will be a room with verandah. Room 203 Mr And Mrs T, Scotland
Excellent hotel in in a quiet area, and very close to the Vatican, Castelo De Angelo and the center. Rooms very clean, they change bed linen and towels every day. Excellent breakfast and coffee. They have lactose free milk. They can get you museum tickets if you ask. You also get a map of Rome, for easier navigation. You should take a taxi application and have a card for online payment, because everything can be paid by mobile (taxi is about 10€ from the center to the hotel, public transport 1.5€ and bills for everything in the city). I recommend it!!!
