Description

During this walking tour we’ll discover both the iconic landmarks and the hidden gems of the center of Rome, including the underground site that most tourists miss, beneath Piazza Navona. We'll start in Piazza di Pietra, where where you'll see the incredible ruins of the temple of Hadrian. This is where we'll get to know about the emperor Hadrian and his heartbreaking love triangle. After this 'ancient gossip' we'll continue by discovering perspective illusions inside a church. This will be one of the highlights of this walking tour, because you literally won't believe your eyes! Incredible how something made 400 years ago, still fools our eyes so much. Then we'll move to the Pantheon, which we'll see from the outside. We'll learn the incredible urban legends tied to it, and the unbelievable light effects set up 2000 years ago, that we can still witness today. And what about that odd elephant right behind the Pantheon? That is a story of a 'revenge' at the expense of a friar (fun true story!). We'll then see the incredible paintings of Caravaggio, casually hanging in a church. These painting are what made Caravaggio's famous in Rome. You don't know who Caravaggio is yet? After this, you will not forget him.. After making our heads spin so much, after all these jaw-dropping wonders, we'll end up in Piazza Navona, one of the most beautiful squares in Rome. Here you'll learn stories of legendary rivalries, propaganda campaigns of the Popes, and at some point you'll realize that.. This square has a peculiar shape. While most tourists stop on the surface, we'll take a narrow alley and end up into the underground world of Rome. Here we'll discover what lays below the surface: and ancient Roman stadium! This experience is for you if you don’t want to confine yourself to the obvious landmarks and want to live a different and more authentic experience of Rome made also of tidbits and urban legends that you don’t find in the guidebooks.
