Description

Discover some of the lesser-known ruins of Ancient Rome on a guided tour. Visit less-crowded locations like the Temple of Venus, the Mamertine Prison, and the Forum Boarium among others. Begin the tour at the famous Arch of Constantine in the piazza of the Colosseum. Stroll around the Colosseum and arrive at the Ludus Magnus, the ruins of the largest gladiator school in Rome. On your way to the next stop, pass the Emperor’s gate of the Colosseum on your way to the Temple of Venus. Learn more about Emperor Hadrian and his architect Apollodorus of Damascus, who are responsible for the temple’s construction. Once you breach the more crowded piazza, stroll down the Via Fori Imperiali (the Imperial Forum Road) and hear tales of various Emperors who left their mark on history by constructing smaller forums, as well as what happened to these areas in the age of Mussolini. See the Mamertine Prison, the oldest prison from Ancient Rome, as well as the Senate Building which still stands to this day. Make your way up Capitoline Hill, now known as the Campidoglio, to see the center of the city and the reconstructed piazza designed by Michelangelo in the 16th century. Finish the tour by passing the Tarpeian Rock and the Forum Boarium with its ancient temples still standing in their original location, as you head to the Circus Maximus to stand in the same arena as the chariot races of Ancient Rome.
